Half the rally bonuses. A new take on a rally book from rally master Steve.
Changing rally masters regularly allows us to innovate to make the rally more enjoyable and safer.
Since we started 12 years ago we have
1 Discarded the fuel log.
2 Issued bonuses electronically rather than having to spent hours typing coordinates into a GPS
3 moved from digital cameras to much better phone cameras that everyone now uses.
4 live scoring which is now more consistent across the board and completed during the rally rather than wasting "socialising" time at the finish.
5 The minimum sleep bonus has high points and is not to be missed . It is now the longest it's ever been to make it safer for everyone.
6 Taken away the minimum miles and points to be a finisher so each rider can judge what they can achieve and so stay within their limits and capabilities.

With these efficiencies the rally is still 34 hours out of 40hrs riding time against the 1st rally of 33hrs riding out of 36hrs.

Things that will never change in an iron butt UK rally.
Riders will always plan their own route and ride that route.
There will always be a rally number to be included in the photos.
Every finisher will get a certificate of achievement.
Our aim is to make the each rally different but challenging and enjoyable at the same time.
If we don't innovate and improve we go backwards.

Great Rally, thank you Steve (Rally Master), Phil, Bob, Rick, many others and Lynn (Phil's wife) for the coffee and photocopying the evening watch!

As for you budding rally enthusiasts, here's a big tip...check your pictures before emailing them, I had been checking them, this was 07:00 Sunday morning after 3.5 hours sleep, the first bonus of the day. Really chuffed I rode thru the barriers to get the bike close...a gust of wind lost me this bonus 10D Sharpness Viewpoint, plus the Combo, can't see the flag! bugger. (pic attached)

Also, 07D GR Park Bench, I placed the flag on the front of the bike, decided the bike wasn't positioned properly, so I moved the bike but not the flag!!! someone shoot me!!

But besides those cock-ups, if I had done the 'call in bonuses', I could of and I repeat could have done a whole lot better, had my Saturday email bonus (1000 points) had a signal in Anglesea and had I remembered the Sunday email 'call in bonus' (1500 points). you had a half hour time slot to send. There's not much difference between the top 9 points-wise, (sorry Martin!) tough rally.

Not making excuses, but damn if that didn't rattle in my head all the way home, but respect to Tommy Wendt for pulling it off, congratulations Tommy.

Commiserations to the twins who lost the sleep bonus (9500 points), because they got the code wrong, which would have put them ahead by far.

But that is what a Rally is all about, anyone can ride, but can you manage all the things the Rally Master asks and get back before they lock the door!

...and to rub salt in the wounds, my work colleague Simon Roberts (rookie) who I convinced 'you'll have a great time' came Second!! Can't wait for Tuesday morning! congrats Simon.

All in all, great Rally...Thank You Team.

when can we see the full rally book?
It's a deck of cards, someone will have to take a photo of every card, maybe 6 on a page? It was a unique idea, which Steve certainly did. As in the way he announced the winners. Three groups of ten, taking from the bottom of each group, until No. 1, so it was random but sequential. 30, 20, 10, 29, 19 etc.

I was surprised to see that Robert did not feature in the results. I thought I read in a thread on here that he was coming over to defend his title.
Did he not turn up or was he a DNF?

It's easy to plan a route sat at home in an armchair.
Not so easy #routeplanning on the clock then managing your ride to full fill the requirements to gain points. Especially difficult if you ignore #bodymanagement and don't take care of yourself.
The scoring system only had 7 ways to mess up and loose points.....

52 bonuses. 52 cards in a pack. Part of the bonuses

No need to copy the cards.
All the bonuses were on the back of the rally flag as well as all the combination bonuses. Extra points awarded for 2 red aces, 2 black aces etc so their were a possible 26 combination bonuses of same things. ie lighthouses, golf clubs, nuclear power stations etc

Good to see new faces on the podium! ;)
Well, I'm not too pissed off actually. I mean, I'm alive and that is what counts. With a leaking tyre in the front and an oily tyre in the back, the 2 hour ride on wet Scottish Highland roads could have had a different ending for me:rolleyes:, soooo......booked under "shit happens"
