48/10

Hi,
I’m planning this ride from Atlanta GA, and I’m interested in the shortest route, starting from here. Has anyone done it?
Thanks in advance!

@kwthom has a great write up of his 48/10 on his blog https://kwthom.blogspot.com/2016/10/ also maps, videos etc., to get you started. I don't think the shortest route is always the fastest, sometimes getting through certain cities at a specific time might be more important. Anyway have a look there and see what good information you can gather.

@Trsb712 Most of the routes I have seen for 48/10 are similar to @kwthom route. People start in different places, but most of the north east have a few differences, some will ride up the side of Rhode Island, and then quickly cross in and back out, this route takes you more west of Boston, others will ride I95 from New York all the way up. A lot of this depends on the time, and day. Out west people do the far west northern states a little differently, and how they will come down to NV,CA,AR.

Here is a good writ up with a Spotwalla link so you can see what they rode. https://forum.ironbutt.org/index.php?threads/48-state-run.2172/

The late Ron Ayres documented large portions of that route me and many others used in his book Against The Clock.

I've not read the book, it's been out of print for quite some time as I found out when I tried to find it before my ride. I do seem to recall that the routing may have been sent to me, but I'm not certain I could find it.

Here's some discussion on the routing angle of the topic: https://www.howderfamily.com/blog/shortest-48/
