50 CC through Dallas on I-20?

#1
Any thoughts on Jacksonville - Mobile - 98 to Hattiesburg- 45 to Jackson - 20 through south side of Dallas - 10 in west Texas to San Diego, thus avoiding Baton Rouge, Houston, and San Antonio.

Yes it is maybe 40 minutes more during the best traffic times and 15 miles farther. But my thought is you only have Big D as the only one real pain to go through. Pick the right time of day and 20 should be easy through Dallas.

Also I am very familiar with that route. 45 and 98 would be the slow spots because of some towns and local LEOs.

Just looking at alternatives for my first 50cc.

Any of you tried that one?

imho, you are on the right track. Baton Rouge, Houston and San Antonio are all a real pain. I20 running on the south side of DFW rarely gets as congested as all 3 of the I10 cities.

I guess it depends on when/ what day of the week you are attempting this ride. I did the 50-CC last July and used the I-10 with no real issues. But, I made sure it was over a weekend. If you are attempting the ride during the week and are crossing those areas during rush hour, I would avoid it and take the 20.

The last time I went through Baton Rouge it was easy but there have been times it was so slow I caught up on sleep. ;)

I haven't decided which day of the week or even what time of the year. If going I-10 I figured early, early on a Sunday morning as a leave time. I worked out all of my fuel stops on I-10 some time ago but never got to make the ride. Since then I have been rethinking the route.

Looks like 98 and 45 are not limited access.....could be slow going ...could there also be traffic lights...just asking since it could make a big difference ..

98 and 45 would be my concerns. Everything there usually moves pretty good but still could be on the slow side. Just thought a trade off for the three cities on I-10.

I plan to leave Jacksonville on a Sunday very early. Given that, I woke up this morning remembering how heavy the I-20 traffic can be into Dallas from the east on a Sunday afternoon/evening. It has started as early as the TX-LA line. I wasn't sure why. Just remembered why, casino traffic from Louisiana returning to Dallas. And how many of them are not sober.

So maybe I-10 with proper timing is still the best shot. Soon after San Antonio, many miles of wide open 80 mph arrives sooner than the Dallas route.

Thanks for input.
