Armistice 1000

#1
I completed my "Armistice 1000" ride on Sunday
4.11.18.
A good day out started at 1 am on Sunday morning from Hartshead
Services on the M62. From there the boring bit across to Manchester
then up the M6 to Gretna in the light rain The rain got heavier on the
way up to Glasgow (alot Heavier) . The run up Loch Lomond in the dark
was interesting with partly flooded roads and inquisitive deer, one of
which decided to stand in the middle of the road to test the ABS on my
GS.(it works really well).
A quiet run over Rannock Moor, Glencoe and onto Fort William, with just
the occasional glimpse of deer and sheep. It was coming light as I
arrived in Fort William and the rain had stopped. I managed to let the
petrol receipt blow away so decided to have a break and a quick Hot
Chocolate and a new receipt. It was then on to Drumnadrochit, then the
A 833 to the A 9 and eventually John O Groats. By now the weather had
improved and the sun was, as we say in Yorkshire, cracking the flags.
After a quick photo session and getting a souvenir for my wife, it was
down to Wick for some petrol. As you will know the top half of the A 9
between Wick and Inverness is a lovely bit of road but from Inverness
down, the average speed cameras are a nightmare, mainly because driver
don't know how to keep going at a constant speed Its either 80 mph then
brake heavily when they see a camera or 40 mph no matter what. (sorry
for the rant).
Anyway due to the speed restriction I managed the 214 miles to Perth
with 24 miles still left in the tank.
From Perth it was over the new Queensferry Crossing and onto Berwick
once again in the dark, then another uninteresting ride down the A 1,
A1M and M1 back on the M62 to Hartshead Moor and 1047 miles done.
Not a bad day, tired but happy I went home to a nice hot bath and
another Saddlesore under my belt (Hopefully after verification)
