At its core the Kilimanjaro is based around the 37.5® waterproof membrane it takes its name from. The barrier is baked into the pant so it’s not removable but it doesn’t need to be because while it deflects water it also breathes exceptionally well, letting moisture and hot air escape through the pants instead of being held against your legs.
On top of the waterproofing, Firstgear puts abrasion resistant material and adjustable CE armor into a style of pants that works well as a standalone shell or as an over pant, though you’ll want to factor in layers during sizing. But thanks to the full-length side zips and removable suspenders/yoke, the 37.5s stay comfortable without losing their capability in either orientation.
