Mexico for lunch?

So I'm planning a Canada - Mexico - Canada (B2B Insanity?) next June.

What's the deal with entering Mexico, if only to grab lunch and a receipt?

1. I seem to understand that vehicle import permit will not be required but insurance will? Manitoba (state) insurance is only valid in US -Canada.

2. What's the cheapest source for liability insurance ?

As far as route, I'm looking at Pembina ND - Nuevo Laredo, since I live 90 minutes from that ND border crossing. Leaving on a Friday morning, I should be able to avoid most of the traffic along the way as I'd avoid large cities in the early morning and late afternoon.

3. Any tips for this route?

Thanks.

Sweet - this is my exact route that I'm also planning on riding sometime next year! I'll be watching!

From what I've read, you can easily buy "day pass" insurance through your regular insurance company or online services. (I have Progressive here in MN and they offer it through an affiliate, so that is my plan).

Depending on what bridge you use to cross into Mexico, there will be a toll fee - you can use that as your border receipt. It seems that you may or may not get a good receipt from a gas station.

My plan was not to spend too much time in Mexico - yes I know it's a lot of hype by a bunch of xenophobic individuals, but border towns supposedly aren't the best place to hang out in.
