Great weather, great ride in, great company, thanks mumma Lyn for fussing over me (and everyone else). Leisurely ride to Melbourne to visit GD1 yesterday, and with GD2 today, then Canberra tomorrow to visit 91 year old mum who had a fall 2 hours after I left her for the ride on Friday and is now in hospital with broken pelvis, then maybe home to Broulee Wednesday. Thanks again folks. Oh, and I think I signed up for my fist ever cc ride 25 August - were there any witnesses to that?

- OVERVIEW -

2023 Muster - Naracoorte South Australia

Following fellowship, wine and a delicious meal the muster was officially opened at 1845.

OPENING:
Participants were thanked for their attendance, unfortunately several riders had to pull out.
As a sign of respect and contemplation, a minutes silence was had for fallen riders and two riders that had passed in the last year being:
  • Edward 'ED535' Brown - 20th September 2022
  • Ken 'Toppy' Topperwein - 19th February 2023
SUCCESSIVE PLANNING:
A short discussion regarding longevity and successive planning discussing the need to engage our riders with their specialised skill-set.
If any member has skills or ideas, come forward.

MEMORIAL SITE:
Have a specialised skill-set in all things metal, Gatey has taken carriage of the memorial rides and the mounting of plaques at the site.
Gatey spoke for a few minutes about the use of Corten (a rusty looking metal that blends into the natural environment) and how it will all come together.
Processes are in place to have plaques mounted and ready for the memorial ride later this year.

IBA SHOP:
IBA Tiger spoke about merchandise. Merchandise was offered postage free for orders taken on the night. A reminder regarding the 'rally' flags are available at a reasonable price of $15 displaying the riders IBA number.

PUBLIC RELATIONS:
Many discussions have been made regarding 'getting it out there'. A public relations officer has been discussed on numerous occasions and it is with pleasure I announce Hackle as our PR officer.
The role will encompasses numerous aspects not limited to reminding riders of pending events, mentoring young riders and engaging riders.

20th ANNIVERSARY 50cc RIDE:
Fatman spoke promoting the group 50cc ride from Melbourne to Darwin. This is to celebrate the first Australian 50cc ride completed in 2003.
Checkout the forum for more information and don't forget to register.
Derrick spoke about the the original ride back in 2003, pre GPS heaven forbid! Everyone was engaged in his recount of a ride that has been repeated and grown.

IBR:
We have four riders on three bikes participating in the upcoming rally in America being, Olly, Jeff the Chef, Kiwi Martin and Piglet.
Olly gave an engaging presentation that sparked interest in everyone. He discussed costs associated with the rally that maybe as high as $25,000 or as little as $10,000.
Bikes are reasonably priced stateside however the farkling may cost as much as the purchase price of the bike. To be competitive the bike has to be set up appropriately.
Olly discussed strategies he used to improve his ride fitness including increasing the number of his rides, need to loose weight, weaning himself from coffee and practice taking photos with the rally flag.
Currently Olly's competitive FJR had an electrical issue and panels are still off but it has been rebuilt rectifying the issue.

REFRESHMENT AND SNACK BREAK - the red flowed freely

MUSTER 2024:
Next years muster will be held in Northeast Victoria with a destination to be announced soon.
Start planning as musters are held in the 3rd week of March however may be a week either side subject to local scheduling.

PISTON BROKE AWARD:
All IBA riders received a number and this was drawn by Elwyn who pulled out Derricks number.

SUPPORTERS PATCHES:
All participants received rectangular supporters patch for attending the muster.

FAST RIDE SUBMISSION:
VLAD discussed a fast submission process that he used for the Muster. It was fast and seamless where riders upload a receipt photo via Bubbler or SWTracker during the ride.
Information available online.

LOCAL RIDE CERTIFICATION:
Skidoo spoke briefly, this is advancing and will be a thing of the future, watch this space.

OX's RECENT 100ccc RIDE:
Ox spoke about his last ride after having rides guessing why he had race tape all over his boots. Apparently they dont make boots like they use too. After countless rides all over and around Australia the soles finely gave up and literally detached themselves from his boots.
The benefits of riders meeting and chaperoning during rides was discussed. This was a very interesting interesting session as it related to Ox's round Australia ride.

FATIGUE:
Ron spoke about his experience with fatigue and how energy levels are boosted when riders meet and encourage especially during the final stages of the ride.

MUSTER CLOSED at 2100

Home Brisbane 7:30PM after overnight Parkes and chasing more murals for GLMC hunt. Played tag a bit with David G on his scoot at Peak Hill and at the wretched Newell roadworks traffic lights. Thanks to the organisers, and Lynne for her photography and everything else.
I was ready for bed after my longish ride, so missed the later discussion. Good to read the "Minutes" diligently recorded by LTP.

I was keeping an eye on your Spot on and off on Fri night Biggles as you rode south, around 1900km/24hr I think, nice consistant pace, well ridden. Great to catch up with you at Naracoorte for a chat. Happy to see you made it home ok also.

PS.... I think you mean John G on his Scooter?

Hey Spaz sorry to hear your Mum had a fall, all the best for her recovery.

I can take Mumma Lynne's fussing anytime, in fact I do. LOL ;)

I seem to remember about a commitment from you to ride the IBA Australia - 20th anniversary 50CC Melbourne to Darwin, mind you, you may have had a beer or two under your belt by then, so if you still feel inclined to have a crack at your first 50CC, here are the details. It would be great to see you on the start line on Friday August 25th 2023.

Should have posted when I got home, time flies.

Set alarm for a 0400 departure Sunday morning but as usual I got up earlier in anticipation.

Loaded the bike and observed that the Aux position was selected on the ignition. The battery was flat as a maggot. Ox and IBA Tiger were geared up and heading off into the cool night.

My room mate had an obstructed airway (slight expiratory snore lol), ensuring his safety I woke him from his deep sleep. He just happened to have a power pack. Being over enthusiastic I flooded the bike. I must have been a little noisy as Fatman came out in his sleep, tickled the throttle and walked away with the bike idling smoothly. What a legend.

I headed off and it started to drizzle for about 150 kilometres, It was sitting on 8c and I was getting cold and had to layer up. I continued to Broken Hill, Dubbo, Gilgandra and back to Dubbvagus completing the ride.

Had a fantastic weeks riding and looking forward to the next one.

Thanks guys for a great Muster, fellowship and stories.
John mate, how unlucky, a servo only selling diesel due to faulty petrol pumps, what a friggin pain in planning. Then a few kids went home returning with their dad and fuel, Country people are great!

Until next time guys, keep riding and look after each other.

Bright has great Autumn leaves for a very pretty patch. Jus' sayin'... ;)

Yes, Fatman, it was John G. Just imagine how much more discombobulated my brain will be in another year!!

Looks (as fully expected) like I missed a wonderful Muster with some special riding friends. Thanks to all who have posted reports and photos. I hope to be back in the distance riding saddle sometime later this year when family matters are better sorted. Stay safe and ride safe folks. Special wishes to the Australian contingent preparing for the IBR. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering that goes along with that endeavour.

Great muster, great fellowship and great vibe.
It made my first saddle-sore in 24 month's off the bike a real sore saddle worthy.

Vic roads are as rough as most other places now. Some fixing up down there needs to happen. At least the other states seem to be getting on with the fix and not just reducing the speed limits indefinitely.

I rode across to Robe for a few days Sunday morning. Stayed with M&D and caught up on family stuff. Their doing pretty good for 94 and 86.
At 94 dads still a very good driver and he's mums principle carer. Says a lot.

First time Mum chose to say in bed for good buys. Dad gave the 7am start his attendance.

Great day to be on the bike. Set a destination time of West Wyalong at 18:00 and hit the time spot on which was the days target. With daylight and a failed room booking I pushed on the Forbes then Parkes and stopped the night at the North Parkes Motel. Late find that as I though I would be running the Newell and sleeping on a bench.
Robyn at the Astro Dish Motel found me digs as they are fully booked. Thanks Robyn.

The bike has suffered a bit of damage due to a couple of big hits on damaged road surfaces. Slipped a rear disc out of the carriers. Rotors stuffed and very poor braking from Biddon to home.

Thanks for the great writeups, photos and positive comments.

It really was a buzz.
Total IBA ride down on Friday total OD 1730km. 17hrs54minutes. Moving average 96.6
I'm happy with that.

Bring on next Muster.

Sounds like you might have inherited some good genes for longevity there!

Lucky with the accom- most motel owners are pretty snippy about late arrivals or beggars needing beds.

I can agree with the road surface observations. My front end hit the travel limit way too many times for comfort.

"Moving average 96.6" That required some pretty slippery sectors between towns and not a lot of slowing for the interminable "80" signs for "roadworks" which were in fact road damage, with not a piece of equipment or cone marker in sight. I wonder how many drivers get pinged for not observing those limits every kilometre. At least in NSW they put advisory speed signs up for the damaged sections.
