Good Eve Milady, I was wondering if we were taking over the usual Motel, or if there were other plans for the start point?
I ask for the same reasons as LTP, for accommodation booking and planning purposes only.
It is getting closer

OK
Going for a ride on my bike will be taking priority.
I have in my hands a contract of sale that requires no bank interventions so after two years 5 good looks two accepted offers and months and months of roller-coaster dizziness I've dumped the home buy and now I'm in the contractual stage of a rabid land grab.
Regardless of its outcome Im going for a ride.
My entry has not been paid so Ill give the registration thing another go..or Ill just ride down the hill before the event and stuff $50 under the door.

Cheers

Excellent. So we can expect you to join us then!

Here are the Rules For The Dam Hard To Say Roundup 02, 2018.

A week before the event, you will be emailed a copy of the Base Route, for those of you who wish to simply follow this.
Following this base route will enable you to achieve the 1666kms minimum distance required to be a finisher in this Roundup. The minimum number of points required will be achievable by following this base route and successfully bagging the bonus locations on it. If you wish to achieve a higher point score than the base route you will have other options, which will be explained to you at the Friday evening meal. The mobmaster will email you the Base Route in a format of his choosing - one that will be easily downloaded to your GPS or paper map.

Please print your email on this forum so that the Mobmaster has a copy of it. I will inform you when the email has been sent to ensure that every entrant has received it.

Friday evening, 26th October - 6.30pm - we will meet at The East Court Chinese Restaurant, 73 Victoria Street, Taree, for a meal and the elusive and exclusive Bonus Packs will be handed out.

I know that many of you like to head off as soon as the Roundup is finished so that you can start making your way home, but some of you may choose to stay on the Sunday night in Taree and head off on Monday morning.

Could I have a show of hands of who intends to stay overnight on the Sunday night after the Roundup is finished, so that I can organise a place to gather together for an evening celebration meal.

Here are the Rules

Rules For The Dam Hard To Say Roundup 02, 2018 - An IBA Australia Sponsored Long Distance Motorcycle Roundup

The Dam Hard To Say Roundup 02

As this is an Australian “Roundup”, each rider and pillion passenger will be known as a “Ringer”.

A Roundup is the process of gathering livestock, or in our case, rounding up bonuses.

In an Australian Roundup the livestock are referred to as a “mob”, therefore your head stockman will be known as: “The MobMaster/s”.

The MobMaster/s will be assisted by “Drovers”.

The Dam Hard To Say Roundup 02 is a motorcycle Roundup, which will comprise of a morning start on the 27th October 2018 and a 30 Hour Long Distance Roundup finishing on Sunday 28th October.

All times are local unless otherwise specified.

The Dam Hard To Say Roundup 02 will start and finish at the
Manning Valley Visitors Information Centre (S31 53.879 E152 29.730).

The Roundup Start will be at 06:00 Saturday 27th October 2018.
The Roundup will finish at the same place at Noon on Sunday 28th October 2018.

The Minimum Distance covered on the Roundup will be 1,666 kms.

Scoring at the scoring table will take place on the final day of the Roundup.

Scoring will take place for the bonus locations visited and the amount of points obtained by the Ringers during the entirety of the Roundup, just as it would occur at any long distance event.

You may gain points by visiting bonus locations and performing other tasks such as, but not limited to, rest bonuses and call in bonuses, and obtaining the required evidence as set out in your Roundup Bonus Booklet.

The following tips, rules and miscellaneous information are designed to provide the Ringer with the minimum amount of background material necessary to commence the Roundup. Information contained under the Rules section is deemed to be crucial.
Only the MobMaster can waive, modify, countermand or otherwise interpret the rules.

Miscellaneous information provided is deemed to assist the Ringer insofar as accuracy permits.

Your registration on the Dam Hard To Say Roundup 02 official registration page is deemed to be your acceptance of all of the rules and conditions of this Roundup.

Rules

1. Interpretation

All interpretation of these rules shall be made by the Mobmaster.

2. Safety

Safety is paramount to the sport of long distance motorcycle riding. Ringers should be reminded that whilst in this Roundup they are bound by all laws and regulations of this country and the state in which they are riding. Participants who intentionally break laws may be disqualified.

3. Sportsmanship

All Ringers will act in a sportsmanlike manner and any attempt to cheat, even if it is alleged that the rules were not understood, may result in disqualification at the discretion of the MobMaster.

4. Assistance with Routing and Route Preparation

It will be deemed to be in the spirit of this Roundup that all participants formulate their own route.
We anticipate that all Ringers will endeavour to complete this Roundup in the spirit of the event.

5. Declaration of Teams

All Ringers shall be treated as individual Ringers, apart from those riding with pillion Ringer, who shall be deemed a team.
Riding Teams

If you wish to ride with another Ringer or Ringers (that is a person riding another motorcycle as opposed to a pillion Ringer) and share routing information, you will be deemed a team, and you must inform your MobMaster before the Roundup that you shall be riding as a team.
You shall be deemed a team for the duration of the Roundup.

From that point forward, if one Ringer of a declared team cannot finish the Roundup for whatever reason, then all Ringers in the declared team are deemed to be non-finishers, even if one of the members of the team does actually finish the Roundup.

In the case of multiple Ringer teams, all Ringers in the team must submit the required evidence for each bonus location that the team is going to claim. For example, should a 3 Ringer team prepare their route together and make decisions together during the Roundup as to where they will go, then that is allowed as they are a team. However, all members of the team will be scored according to the lowest score of any individual of the team. For example, if one member of the team was to lose their Roundup Flag, the entire team will be penalised. If one member of the team was to DNF (did not finish) for any reason, then the entire team will score a DNF.

Ringer-Pillion Ringer Teams

In the case of a Ringer-pillion team (that is two people on one motorcycle) both persons in the team must finish the Roundup. Only one Roundup package will be issued to that team with one Roundup Flag. They will only be required to provide one set of documentation for scoring at the end of the Roundup. Both Ringer and pillion Ringer must ride the whole way together and there can only be one Ringer for the entire Roundup. At no time can the pillion Ringer become the Ringer. They must have either the pillion Ringer or the Ringer in every photograph along with their Roundup Flag. See further information below.

For more information about team rules, please see information on Roundup Flags

All Ringers, whether they DNF or not, will be welcome at the Celebrations at the end of the Roundup.

6. Use of Alternative Transport

Ringers must ride their motorcycle to the immediate vicinity of any bonus location, or travel with their motorcycle while it is transported on a commercial ferry. Once in the immediate vicinity of a bonus location, Ringers shall be allowed to travel on foot or by using any other form of transportation specifically allowed by the bonus instructions. Should it become necessary for a Ringer to transport their motorcycle by trailer or some other means for repairs, then they will need to return to the point from which their motorcycle was picked up for transport if they wish to continue on with the Roundup.

7. Ride Log

Ride Log sheets will be supplied to each entrant, which must be completed during the Roundup and handed in at the end of the Roundup, along with any other documentation such as receipts etc.
This material will be placed in an envelope which shall then be sealed when you arrive for scoring.
Once this envelope is sealed, it cannot be reopened. Any missing documentation, anything you have forgotten shall not be accepted once the envelope is sealed.

All Bonus Locations must be recorded by name in your Ride Log in chronological order and include the Time, Bonus Name, Odometer Reading and Points being claimed for that Bonus.
If a bonus requires that a question be answered the answer must go in the comment column.

Only items recorded on your ride log may have points awarded.
That is: To earn any bonus, you MUST claim it on the log / form whatever it is. This includes the Rest bonus, the Call-In Bonus, and the Tracking/Fuel Log Bonus.

The final checkpoint will open at 11:00 on 28th October, 2018.

At 12:00 Noon on 28th October, 2018, the penalty window opens.

Riders will lose points per minute until the penalty window closes at 13:00, on 28th October, 2018.

8. Scoring Penalty.

The penalty window opens one hour prior to the Roundup end time.
Penalty points will accrue at the rate of 100 points per minute.
So first point loss of 100 points starts at one second past the opening of the penalty window, at one minute and one second, the points loss is a total of 200 and so on for the full 60 minutes.

8.1 A Ride Log will be compulsory, with 1000 points awarded for 100% error free Log.

8.2 Dockets with an error may have hand-written corrections for no point loss. Any dockets presented with uncorrected errors will accrue a point deduction of 100 points per docket.

8.3 Ringers checking in after 13:00 on 28th October, 2018 will be classified as a DNF (did not finish).

All documentation required for scoring purposes, Ride Log, receipts, your Roundup Flag, or whatever else is required for scoring purposes, must be handed in to scoring drovers and sealed in the envelope before 13:30, on 28th October, 2018. All items will be returned to you at a later date.

9. Collecting Bonuses

During the Roundup, Ringers will be required to ride to various locations. These will be known as bonus locations. Points will be awarded for bonuses where the instructions for each bonus have been fully met.

In the case where a Ringer fails to provide all of the documentation required to score a particular bonus (e.g. Roundup Flag missing in the photo) points will NOT be awarded for that bonus.
It’s all or nothing. No half points will be awarded.

In the case where a bonus requires documentation of the Ringer’s visit by photograph, the photograph shall be:

9.1 Presented in a format that will allow your scorer to easily view and verify your photograph. The onus is on you to have whatever equipment is necessary for you to do that at the scoring table

9.2 Of a quality and sufficient in subject to enable the scorer and MobMaster to be able to make a valid judgement that the photo meets all requirements of that bonus.

9.3 Able to have the time and date recorded if the time and date need to be produced in order for verification to gain bonus points

9.4 Inclusive of the Ringer’s Roundup Flag, which should be clearly visible for scoring purposes in every shot. If we can’t see the Flag, or we can’t be certain that it is your Flag, it won’t count. All the points for your bonus will be lost if the Roundup Flag is upside down or back to front in the shot

10. Smart Phones

Smart phones may be used to take photos, and anyone using a smart phone may opt to send all images directly to the assistant MobMaster and chief scorer, Ph 0419 005 344 (or an alternate number that you may be given prior to the start of the Roundup).

If you choose to do this, then a message will be sent back to you ASAP after receipt of the image, stating whether the photo meets all the criteria with a Y for Yes or an N for No.

If the message sent back to you is a Y, you are assured that your photo meets all the criteria.

However, if the message sent back to you is an N, then you are assured that the photo does not meet the criteria. No explanation will be given as to why it does not meet the criteria. You will need to work this out for yourself.

The advantage of sending your photos directly during the Roundup is that it may afford you the opportunity to take another photograph or do whatever is necessary whilst still on the Roundup, rather than finding out at the scoring table that the photo does not meet the criteria.

11. Rest Bonus

For the rest bonus, the Ringer’s documentation must indicate that the motorcycle was not moved (other than to get to or from a nearby location where receipts were available for starting and/or ending the rest bonus period) and no other bonuses were acquired during the period when the Ringer was supposed to be resting. A rest bonus may not be claimed when a motorcycle is being transported on a ferry.

In this Roundup there will be points awarded for a minimum of 4 hours rest taken. Every 30 minute increment after the 4 hours have been taken will be worth an extra 500 points, up to a maximum of 2000 extra points.
If you don’t take the full 30 minutes, you won’t be awarded the 500 points. No points will be awarded for less than a 30 minute increment.
You may take the rest bonus at any time that you like, providing it finishes no later than 6 hours before the penalty window opens (06:00).

The rest bonus is not compulsory, however, we strongly recommend that you take it and get free points just for sleeping.

Proof of your rest bonus must be in the following format:

11.1 Take a photograph of your motorcycle and your Roundup Flag where you intend to rest, followed immediately by a photograph of your odometer showing your motorcycle’s mileage and a photo of your clock on bike or iphone screen shot showing the time.
No Roundup Flag required in ODO shot.

11.2 Enter the odometer reading in your Log.

11.3 At the end of your rest period, take a photograph of your motorcycle and your Roundup Flag in the same location, a photo of your clock on bike or iphone screen shot showing the time, followed immediately by a photograph of your motorcycle’s odometer showing your motorcycle’s mileage.
No Roundup Flag required in ODO shot.

12. Call in Bonuses

Call in points may be awarded when the MobMaster receives a text message from a Ringer in the designated call in bonus time slot. Your MobMaster’s Call In Bonus Number will be 0419 005 344.

The message must include: the rider’s name, Flag number, location (city/town and state), the last bonus scored and the next bonus planned.

To receive points all of the required content must be contained in the text message and the time and odometer reading must be recorded on the bonus score sheet.

The phone number that all Call in Bonus text messages should be sent to is Ph 0419 005 344

13. Finishing Status

A Ringer (or team) who arrives at the final checkpoint prior to the closing of that checkpoint and who achieves a minimum number of points during the course of the entire Roundup will be considered a finisher of the Roundup. The minimum point target shall be given out with the Roundup Bonus Booklet.

14. Penalties: Disqualification

The rider may be disqualified for any of the following acts or omissions:

14.1 Failing to render aid to a Roundup participant or to the public under emergency or life threatening conditions.

14.2 Being issued with an infringement notice from a Police Officer for any Traffic Offence for any State Traffic rules.

14.3 Acting in a manner that may endanger the general public or any other participant in the Roundup.

14.4 Acting discourteously to the MobMaster, or any other Roundup official.

14.5 Defacing, altering or tampering with any item that is used in either identifying a Ringer or a location that a Ringer may visit.

14.6 Failing to inform the MobMaster not later than two hours after the final checkpoint closing time that you will not arrive at the checkpoint.

14.7 Operation of the motorcycle by a designated pillion Ringer or anyone else during the time of the Roundup

14.8 Any other act which in the view of the MobMaster constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct or is deemed to be unfair or inappropriate, whether specifically prohibited by the rules or not.

15. Replacement of a motorcycle

A Ringer who fails to ride the whole Roundup on the same motorcycle will be deemed a non-finisher.

16. Receipt errors or digital photo errors

All receipts that are handed in as part of your documentation must contain the following information:

16.1 Location

16.2 Date

16.3 Time of the location

No receipts will be required unless specified in the Roundup Bonus Booklet.

Where a receipt is requested, and for some reason is not available or is incorrect, the onus is on you to be able to provide some other proof that you met the criteria.

Photos will not suffice in place of a missing receipt.

See When Things Go Wrong below, for exceptions to this rule.

Take good care of your camera or smartphone and have a good knowledge of its workings prior to the Roundup. Providing the required photos of bonus locations is the sole responsibility of the participant. If your camera or smartphone fails, you will not be awarded bonus points.
A cheap backup camera may be a good idea.
All Cameras MUST be set to AEDT and left there and not be changed

17. Additional Rules and Tips

Your first priority at the finish of the Roundup is to arrive at the checkpoint before you are time barred. There is only one checkpoint in this Roundup. Time penalties begin to accrue at 12:00 on 28th October, 2018.

In terms of your score in the Roundup, being time barred is the worst thing that can happen to you.
You will lose all points you might otherwise have gained if you are time barred.

You should stop the clock by finding the check in table. After you have checked in you have until 13:30, 28th October, 2018 to complete your documentation and hand it in to the check in table. You are responsible for having all documentation, including any receipts or your Ringer’s score sheet correctly filled in.

Once you have submitted your documentation, and your envelope is sealed, you may not add, change or remove anything from that envelope.

Be advised that Daylight Saving applies in NSW from 02:00 on Sunday 7th October, 2018.

18. Bonuses

You will need to gain a minimum number of points from the starting location and to the final checkpoint in order to accumulate enough points to be considered a finisher. You will need to go to bonus locations.

In general, the further away from the finish and the more difficult a bonus to complete, the greater it’s worth. It could also simply be that the whim of the MobMaster has deemed the bonus to be worth more points.

Your job is to balance kilometres and time.
On Friday evening you will receive a list of bonus locations that will be used in the Roundup, giving you time to plot each bonus location into your preferred mapping format.
They will be in a number of formats: a .csv text file, a .kml file , and a .gpx file.

Also on Friday evening you will be given a Roundup Bonus Booklet that has all the information for each bonus location, including the point values for each bonus location and instructions as to how you may acquire those points. This will be given to you in a printed sheet/booklet format, and also supplied in .pdf format.

Your task is to decide which, if any, of those bonus locations are attainable by you during the Roundup.

You may pick bonuses in any order that you want to.

If there are any time or date restrictions at a bonus location, it is your responsibility to ensure that the time on the receipt you obtain for proof is correct and within the guidelines given. Always make sure that the date on any receipt is legible.
If a receipt is required to show proof of a timed bonus then it must not be altered in any way. No writing the correct time on it or no writing what the time is in NSW. If we say get a receipt at 11am in Brisbane we want to see a receipt from Brisbane that has 11am printed on it. There’s the proof of the visit. If the time is wrong on your receipt then bad luck - get a better receipt.

19. What you should expect

Be prepared for anything.

Bonus locations are held in a variety of settings. You may need to go to a police station, museums, private homes, caves, the top of mountains – if you don’t want to go there, don’t choose that location. The choice is entirely yours.

You should carry a flashlight in case you need to acquire bonuses in the dark.

We would advise you to have a GPS or some other device in order to more easily find the bonus location. Bonus locations may be hard to find without some type of GPS, but you can plan your route using almost any method you wish, including paper maps.

When choosing which bonuses to go to, don’t forget to allow time for rest and sleep.

Remember that every bonus, including a fuel stop, takes time – usually a minimum of 10 minutes.

Remember to take into account weather conditions when choosing your route. You are responsible should bad weather set in and block your path. No latitude will be given for bad weather.

20. When Things Go Wrong

There are no tricks in this Roundup. If you cannot find a bonus location, either we made a mistake or you are doing something wrong.

If you arrive at a bonus location only to find that it is unavailable for any reason – closed, moved, burned to the ground etc., do your best to obtain a replacement item. For instance, if a bonus location requires you to have breakfast at Joes Café but it has burned down, go to another restaurant close by. If there are no other restaurants in that town, get a receipt from a business in a nearby area. Similarly, if you are told to buy a Coke at Rose’s Take Away and she is out of Coke, buy a Pepsi. She won’t care, and neither will your MobMaster.

If road construction prohibits you from entering an area where a bonus location is and there is no other way in to get that bonus location, take a photo of the obstruction, adhering to the criteria for photographic documentation. You may then receive credit for that bonus at the sole discretion of the MobMaster.

Before leaving a bonus location, ensure that you have carried out the instructions of the bonus to the letter otherwise you may not be awarded the bonus points.

Your MobMaster has done the utmost to ensure that all bonus locations are available; however, things can go awry. Your MobMaster has done their best, and expects you to do yours.

21. Roundup Flag

Each Ringer will be given their own Roundup Flag on the day of the Roundup, with an identifying number on it. You MUST NOT duplicate your Roundup Flag.

The Roundup Flag must be in every single photo that you submit for bonus points, with the number clearly recognisable. If the number is not visible in each photo, you will incur exactly the same penalty as having no Roundup Flag in the photo at all: i.e. – no points for that bonus.

Only one Roundup Flag is allowed for each Ringer or pillion Ringer team. Your Roundup Flag must be in every single photo taken for photo bonuses.

Two up participants must have either the Ringer or the pillion Ringer in the photos along with the Roundup Flag.

You will need to hand your Roundup Flag in at the end of the Roundup along with your documentation. Failure to hand your Roundup Flag in will incur a 1000 point penalty.

If you lose your Roundup Flag during the Roundup, you may still collect photo bonuses, but the Ringer personally must be clearly visible in every bonus location photograph along with the subject of that bonus. If you have a pillion Ringer, you must both be in the photograph. You will need to either use a self-timer or have someone else take the photograph for you. The Mobmaster must be advised immediately if you lose your Roundup Flag, giving the bonus location where it is first missed.

Your Roundup Flag MUST be in every single photo submitted to earn bonus points unless otherwise stipulated.

Your bike does not need to be in the photo unless specified in the bonus location instructions.

Lost Roundup Flags

If you find someone else’s Roundup Flag at a bonus location or elsewhere: DO NOT TOUCH IT.
At your earliest convenience, phone the MobMaster and advise them of the exact location of the Flag. Remember, the owner may have already missed their Flag and be returning for it.

22. Electronic Gadgetry

22.1. Route Planning
Ringers may use paper maps or routing programs running on laptop computers.

22.2. GPS
All bonus locations will be given as a GPS co-ordinates. Some may have addresses in their description, others will not. Therefore Ringers will need some method of finding a bonus location based on its latitude and longitude.

22.3. Mobile Phones
You will require a ‘phone for this Roundup capable of sending and receiving text messages, as these will be required for Call in bonuses and you may be sent text messages from the MobMaster.

23. Mobmaster Contact

Your MobMaster’s contact Ph is 0419 005 344. Make sure you have this entered into your phone and have it with you during the Roundup.

That motel in Cundletown is closed. You will need to stay at another motel in Taree. There are quite a few to choose from. The restaurant for the evening meal is in the middle of town on the main street.
