My point in posting was not to toot my own horn. My point was that I have done a multitude of rides but I still respect any rider for the ride they have completed and would never have the disrespect to call their efforts drudging.

And I have contributed many ride reports in this and the previous Iron Butt Forum for precisely the reasons that you mention. I share. Perhaps you're too new to realise that?

CB650F, here's your words: "If you're going to take the time to write out a response, the least you could do it explain the planning and effort required to reach those goals. Spread around the knowledge and experience you've gained through your almost 100 IBA rides in 3 countries and many various bikes. That how you get people interested in such things. Just saying that you've done lots of rides is nothing more tooting your own horn."

"Seriously, this forum should be full of people sharing experiences and exchanging ideas, but it's mostly requests for forum status changes, people asking what's taking so long with their certification package, and clarification on ride details. There's a whole section devoted to ride reports, but it's so rarely used."

So here's some of the rides I've shared, though I'm not sure if you have looked through the forum:

I doubt that you have the integrity to apologise for your own rudeness.

Then you've missed your mark entirely. Your post was nothing more than the ranting of an asshole complaining that I haven't ridden enough to understand the complexity and hard work involved in 65 BBGs, then you telling Tally-ho about how thousands that have come since him have raised the bar well beyond anything he could have contemplated. It's an embarassingly arrogant post that you should be ashamed of.

And I have contributed many ride reports in this and the previous Iron Butt Forum for precisely the reasons that you mention. I share. Perhaps you're too new to realise that?
Quite the contrary. Some people have shared, but the vast majority haven't. Perhaps you're too new to realize that.

I doubt that you have the integrity to apologise for your own rudeness.
You're right. I certainly won't apologize for anything. You deserve every bit of that rudeness for your shameful behavior. You should be treating new members respectfully and being helpful to them instead of complaining about their lack of understanding. Help him understand instead of shoving your head up your ass. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for treating a new member like that. When you interact with new people, you are representing the IBA as a whole to that person. The IBA deserves better than you complaining about how little new members know and understand. It should have people willing to help those new members at every opportunity, and you should be one of those people helping. I shouldn't have to point these things out to you. You should be smart enough to know them.

I am a former EMT who has saved countless lives, and a living organ donor. If you want to talk about integrity, I'll win every time.

I think I hear the sound of you tooting your own horn, eh?

I am a current doctor. I have never heard either an EMT or a doctor claim superiority over the other in terms of integrity, but there's always a first.

You are perhaps equal parts troll and asshole (sorry for the cuss word, readers). I've read it before on other forums and I'll heed it now:

DON'T FEED THE TROLL.

That's not an excuse to be an asshole. Both of them should be extremely nice and polite rather than abrasive and condescending towards new members. Their behavior here is shameful and they should be called out for it.

Watch this: "A BBG requires an average speed of higher than 60 mph (100KMH) for 24 hours. That's no sleep, no rest stops, no nothing. That means, once you factor in rest stops, fuel stops, food stops, etc. you need to be riding 75 mph for the majority of the day. You need to have access to roads that can safely support those speeds. And that assumes your time management at fuel stops is good. The ride is just as much about the planning of the ride as it is about riding the plan. That's why a BBG is a significant accomplishment." That's a quick, easy, and helpful reply about what goes into a BBG and why someone might want to do it. It's also shorter than complaining about how you're offended by someone else's lack of knowledge.

I guess this thread demonstrates why the IBA has about 75,000 members, but this forum is all but dead. New member 'walks in here', explains his circumstance, and gets the situation resolved. In that process, the current members make him feel unwelcomed and as if his request was out of line despite it being a very common occurrence. Then in his thread that is essentially an apology for offending those who disagree with him getting two certs for one ride, and a compliment to those past and present in the IBA, he gets berated for not understanding that some rides are more about the logistics of figuring out how to do the ride, rather than the ride itself. Seriously, this forum should be full of people sharing experiences and exchanging ideas, but it's mostly requests for forum status changes, people asking what's taking so long with their certification package, and clarification on ride details. There's a whole section devoted to ride reports, but it's so rarely used.

Being an asshole because you have more experience than someone else is asinine. Be helpful to them and share what your experience has taught you. Nobody likes an asshole.
I do not respond to ignorant comments from people that have no idea what they are talking about but feel the need to respond to this stupidly.
Ox (Peter) is one of the most experienced riders here in Australia. His comments were not out of line.
His generosity and willingness to help has been a benifit to so many Australian riders. His ride reports over the years have been an inspiration to many of us. He has been active in organising and running many of the rallies and training seasons we have down here.
Last year he personally tailored a rally to assist myself and the few others from here that were chosen to participate in the 2019 IBR.
Personally I feel that an apology is needed from you but judging from you comments would not expect one.

Then he should have enough sense to helpful in this situation instead of complaining about someone who just joined the forum and doesn't understand why someone might be interested in multiple BBGs.

Sorry CB, you call for people to be "nice and polite" then call them "asshole".

I didn't know Ox's background (the links are mighty impressive and I'll follow them up), but I've followed Greg Rice's accomplishments and generosity in passing along knowledge for some time.

The 65 BBG comment was directed at Greg Rice since he's the only one approaching that level. Sure the author said, to each..., but it was dismissive.

Treat a new comer nicely? Good advice. Equally good, don't walk in the door to a party and tell the hostess her house smells funny.

But.... to each his own.

If Greg was as wonderful, caring, and helpful as you claim, he wouldn't have a problem with some questioning why he does what he does. Instead, he lashed out at someone for simply not understanding what makes him tick. As I pointed out earlier, such behavior is not befitting someone in the IBA and he should be ashamed of it. That attitude towards other people is why there aren't more people active on this forum. Nobody is too good to be questioned. Being offended that someone thinks what you've done seems to be a monotonous drudgery, is a prime example of those easily ruffled feathers I mentioned earlier. There is no reason to get ruffled up simply because someone said something other than "Oh My God You're So Awesome!!1!one!!". That is especially true when it's someone who is new to the forum.

Well, as Archie Bunker often said......."Ahh jeez Edith" ! First, I would like to thank my producer, director and CB 650F for their persistent support. It is most regrettable that my comment, now viewed in retrospect as having a condescending inflection, has unleashed a rhetorical mushroom cloud. I extend my apology to Danger4U2 and Greg for that mistake. And Greg, since you accused me of "begging" for 2 certificates, and I dread the thought of countless sleepless nights, I will gladly retract my request for them. In other words, IDGAS. I'm sure you can figure out that acronym. By the way, I am from Philadelphia, not the south, thus rendering your character observation null and void. Hopefully, your catching on to some of the aforementioned sarcasm. The apology was sincere. To OX-34, "where ever that is" is also dismissive and condescending. They are airport codes. Little known towns like Ft. Lauderdale and Philadelphia . I only dabbled in IBA. Say what you want, but unlike other posts, I actually conveyed a little of my limited experience (chasing down a rider who forgot his route sheet). Crazy weather, etc. And yes, I know what it is like to ride well over 1500 miles in a day.......with another 850 to go until the ride is complete. It is every rider's right to announce how many rides he has completed. I would rather convey the humorous, unique aspects of a single ride. Different strokes.....if I can say that. Thanks again CB650F for your support. Maybe not always deserved, but appreciated nonetheless. To everyone else, as was said in the movie Stripes, "lighten up, Francis". Life is too short

What part of "end this discussion" did you two not understand?

Since you are unable to do so, I'll do it for you.
