Some ride updates below:

A few riders asked me recently if Derrick and I have decided on a definate start time from Port Melb so they can start their planning.
Well we have now - 2am, Friday 25th August 2023. I have updated the first post to reflect this start time.

LTP and I are doing a 50CC and Lynne has booked our Darwin cabin accommodation at the Discovery Caravan Park, 11 Farrell Cres. Winnellie, 10km from the Shell service station at 37 Daly St. We are staying there Saturday 26th Aug (arriving approx 2am early Sunday ) and Sunday 27th Aug. We did look at staying in central Darwin but some of the prices were high and bike security was unknown. We have stayed numerous times at this Discovery Caravan Park both at the end of IBA rides and also during our Lap of the Paddock, and they will leave your room key if arranged in a night safe for you to access on your "out of office hours" arrival.

Another close option is BIG 4 Caravan Park click here: https://www.lifestyleparks.com.au/hidden-valley/

If enough 50CC riders stay around in Darwin, we should be able to meet up at a pub close by for dinner on the Sunday night.

Another thing to be aware of , while checking fuel stops along the Stuart Hwy, Google maps suggests Wycliffe Well service station is "temporarily closed". LTP has tried ringing them a few times and their phone rings out. So you may want to keep an eye on that if you were going to utilise them.

Hope that helps.

My ride preparations are coming along nicely. I've not ridden a single km this year, just about finished moving house, not enven started unpacking, still need to landscape, build the proper driveway and build a giant shed all before august. The new job is going ok so far.
IF I make it to the start line, the 100km there might be my training ride...

Your bike runs nicely, both in rain and hooligan mode. I tested it for you ...

I've been doing some bike service between storms each weekend. Its nice to be playing with my toys and not house building.
I like that giant shed project Thommo sounds like your under the pump.

We are all feeling impacts to our prep. I sit here in the office gazing at my half assembled ride for the 50cc not even sure if I will make it to the start line.
Even after 190 000km ridden last year in conditions that would have made everyone else quit, I ask myself can I do this 50 hours?
We can; is the answer. The ride will generate its own energy, the group will sustain us all, we all inividually have the experience to do this in that I have confidence.

You have a lot on your plate Thommo.

Reading your earlier list of toDoos all involve large sums of folding stuff and time.

I still have plenty do on my house. Its winter and -7 yesteday,-5 this morning and still faffing about installing our fire. I'm being very cautious not to mention trips or motorcycle stuff around her indoors.

Also got some stuff going on with M&D in the background.

I'm in till the last minute. Bike prep still ongoing.

Seems like this is a reoccurring theme. New home alterations, old home plenty of alterations. I'm in the same boat. Moved back to Bairnsdale, new older home. Trees to be removed, read feffing large palms close to home, new shed to be erected, internal painting to be completed. As I said, same old same old. But I can assure you I'll be at the start line in August.

LTP and I drove home last week from an outback trip via Coober Pedy and we noticed numerous roadworks along the route south on the Stuart Hwy and also along the Augusta Hwy. One Augusta Hwy section of a new 2 lane highway has cut the entry and exit into Nantawarra Rd near Lockiel which is a favorite cut through from Gawler, Mallala & Balaklava for some of us, it may pay you to keep an eye on those roadworks or route around it if possible.

Many of these roadwork sites should be completed by the time we get there in August, it seems some in the north of SA will still be occurring.

These couple of Vic, SA & NT Road condition sites may be of interest to you if you don't already have them saved. I'll add these links to post #1 in this thread.

How reliable are they in being kept up-to-date?
Not sure Biggles, there were a lot of roads damaged by the big rains we all had and I think they are still playing catch up. Some 60kmh roadworks we came across on the Stuart Hwy south of Coober Pedy looked like they only required the white lines to be sprayed on to be complete, I wouldn't think that should take too long?

I have booked a table for the Sunday 27th August dinner, please see details below. I have updated the details inot Post #1 of this thread.

The Midway Berrimah Hotel, 644 Stuart Hwy Berrimah NT has been booked under my name for up to 20 people for dinner on Sunday 27th August at 6pm. I would suggest if you would like meeting for a pre dinner drink in the bar around 4pm and to share some stories.

We should all be in Darwin by Sunday at 0400hr (AEST), having arrived spread out over perhaps several hours.

I realise the dinner is planned and drinks beforehand, but that is 12 hours post ride.

I'm committed to being back in Melbourne Tuesday so I'm planning a 100CCC.

Any plans to meet in the dark on Sunday morning to mark the finish of the 50CC?
