Around The World documentary/movie by Fortnine...

Hello,

I don't know how many IBA members outside of Canada are familiar with Fortnine (I have no financial interest...it is just where I buy my tires and oil (which is a thread for another day...)), but they are a motorcycle parts/clothing distributor who also happen to have one of the most informative/funniest YouTube channels out there. Riders often complement them on their YT videos...and comment that a six-minute video often leaves them wanting more...so they decided to make a movie...

But not just any movie...they decided to attempt to break the Around the World world record by powered vehicule (car, truck, motorcycle) on two (2) separate Ducatis while the videographer rode pillion. The movie will be released on December 27th, but you can see a trailer here:

I know I am curious so I pre-ordered. If any of you want to come over to my place over the Holidays to watch it, be my guest...

Here is the official description:
FortNine attempts to break the circumnavigation world record with award-winning filmmaker Edwin El Bainou riding pillion. It's a dangerously silly race across thousands of kilometres per day, with the polished and authentic eye that only a ride-along cinematographer can capture. Part documentary and part dark comedy, this is motorcycling as FortNine has never shown before.

In less than 19 days, the trio must ride from Anchorage to Miami, Lisbon to Istanbul, Mumbai to Kolkata, Bangkok to Singapore and Perth to Sydney. Their time is inclusive of all flights, border delays and sleep (what few minutes of it there is). Ducati supplied Multistrada V4 Rally motorcycles in each continent for this expedition, and the rest is just gas, swass and the hourglass. Yalla Habibi!

Cheers!

Hey @Crafty_rider - It’s not really necessary to spam the IBA forum with links to non LD videos/commentary. We can find this stuff ourselves.

Nice of you to invite folks to watch with you. Perhaps leading with the watch party? As in, it’s about the people gathering more than just watching the movie?

FWIW, Fortnine isn’t everyone’s cuppa. His stuff grates on my nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Hey @EricV - I hardly consider it spam to send along links for two (2) videos (one that actually discusses this association and another that talks about a ride around the world). I don't think I need to explain how algorithms work and that it wouldn't be impossible that people on this forum, who share the same interests as me, would not have seen these videos...

Great...you don't like Fortnine. Understood. Others do. Let's just agree to disagree...

Cheers!

From another attempt this year: https://enduro21.com/en/videos/even...sam-sunderland-announces-world-record-attempt
Rules state Sam’s journey must be continuous and follow a single direction around the globe. He must start and finish at the same location, touch two antipodal points (locations on earth that are diametrically opposed to one another), and cover a minimum of 18,000 miles. All this he must do on the same bike
so a bike-per-continent won't make it, but however you slice it 18,000+ miles in 19 days is pretty hard core LD riding.

Is that the Rod Sirling wannabe that seems to make up most of his own "facts" about almost anything?

I don't know what the rules are from Guinness...I guess I will watch the movie and find out. Either way, it was a heck of a ride putting in long days for many days...

Cheers!
Well, after the Sanders record, Guinness doesn't certify any circumnavigation records anymore.

There are several definitions of 'circumnavigation' and they met none of them. If you apply going through antipodes, then you'd have to visit South America in one way or the other. Applying the definition of 'circumference distance', you'd have to ride at least 24.900 miles, that's a lot more than the 13.000 mls they did. Claiming they 'broke the Sanders record' by three days is utter nonsense when they rode only two thirds of the distance than Sanders.
The legs in North America, Europe and Australia are just a walk in the park, crossing India and Thailand is more interesting, but accounted only for the smallest part. In true globetrotter spirit, they would have rode from Lisbon to Kolkata and not chickened out when it gets more challenging.
Calling this whole thing a 'record' is just a fraud, devaluating the achievements of actual heroes.

Doing 13.000 mls in under 17 days with a support crew? Any IBR is tougher than that.

RIding around North America or Australia? Sure, we can all do that. But with all those border crossings and different cultures? That's a next level challenge IMO.

With the exception of the Thailand-Malaysia border, they have avoided all tricky border crossings. US-Canada-US: no big deal. Portugal to Croatia: no controls. Serbia to Turkey: only minor delays. India: no border. Australia: no border.

There were border crossings, even if some of them were in airports. Granted, most should be easy especially with Canadian passports. I think they also did a land crossing from Malaysia to Singapore, though I assume that's pretty easy too. I still say planning and executing this ride adds some layers of complexity we don't normally face when we stick to US-Canada, Australia, or Schengen countries.

Maybe it's a record and a circumnavigation, maybe it's not. Either way it's bikes and riders out for a very long adventure so it gets the thumbs up from me. I'll watch it when it becomes available.
Ditto - been looking forward to this for around a year now. And I will send a link to Eric and hopefully he will record his reaction and put it up on Youtube :p, because that too will be entertaining... I ❤️ #Fortnine.

Is that the Rod Sirling wannabe that seems to make up most of his own "facts" about almost anything?
Well... it was actually Rod Serling - who fabricated nearly as many tales as Samuel Clemens. And, I enjoyed nearly every post from both.
A little levity in the saddle is very often just what the doctor would ordered. A good tale needn't be burdened by some clinical truth of the matter du jour.
Now back to my fishing as I ponder my next BunBurner Platinum...
