Euro Ride

I guess Cyprus may be the thorn in the rose, destination wise ?
Ed.
Not only Cyprus!

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

I had a route including Malta and Cyprus for when we left the EU but then COVID appeared!!!!
What about Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, San Marino, Monaco and Andorra?

Of that wee list Phil only Luxembourg is in the EU. I was thinking along the lines of a run that included all EU countries accessible via land borders removing the need for ferries.

I think you'd need to start in Ireland and finish in Cyprus

Maybe you could do the ride without Cyprus. Just going there at much expense to get a ferry and turn straight around does seem a waste. The Americans I believe have a similar ride where you visit all the different States with the exception of Hawaii, again because of its geographical position. I'm sure Phil or Martin could chip in here and advise.

I was thinking more on the lines of considering it as a long ride to Cyprus for a weeks holiday.;););)

The ride rules could be set at different levels with a basic ride and more extreme to include Cyprus.

That's an interesting idea. I live in the middle of France and so that circuit would work for me. I was wondering about something different, having done the RBLR1,000 a few time and it is a long haul to Squires just to do the same circuit again.

Gentlemen , I present to you "The SMALL Ride" (San marino, Monaco, Andorra, Luxembourg,Lichtenstein).
Looks like about 2,600 miles as a loop from my home between Andorra and Luxembourg.

Or 2,175 starting and ending at one of the points on the circuit. (Using rough planning on the MIchelin route planner).

A big question is whether to do it a motorway blast or a scenic route. The planning is going to be interesting and will keep me out of mischief for a while.

This is an excellent concept. It keeps it straight forward and offers the potential for a second & third level of difficulty. The third level adding additional countries.

This parallels the US version where the basic ride is 48 States in 10 days, then the higher level, (48+), version adds Alaska, a 49th state that can still be ridden to, but you must transit Canada to do so. A third level of difficulty adds Mexico and Canada and then for the truly addicted, there are Back to Back versions and Back to Back Plus versions in 20 days each.

If you did this with a 62 hour time limit it would be on par for a SS1K pace. Upping it to a Gold level ride would be 42 hours. Would these be reasonable standards for your 2600 mile route?

Doing the ride as a loop, starting and finishing from one of the 5 points (Andorra for example instead of home) comes out as 2,195 miles on the current planning version. This could be a 48 hr ride. Even more so since the speed limit on French motorways in good weather is 84mph.
I have also sharpened up the route in terms of time by using the first filling station over the border instead of a waypoint in the centre of the city. Saves a few miles but a lot of minutes.
It is now looking like two back to back SS1K in 48 hrs. Time for more planning including the sleep break and timing. May looks likely, outside the Easter holiday period.

All 25 EU Countries . Just playing with the map and we are looking at very roughly 6500 miles without Cyprus and Malta.
This is a route without going all the way around the Gulf of Bothnia and opting instead to get the ferry from Sweden in to Turku Finland, saving 1100 miles.
Starting in Ireland and finish in Northern Portugal. Do we feel the Ferry to Finland is wrong or should there be a second ride including say Kemi Finland . Any thoughts ?.
