Feasible access to the start of the Murray River.

Gday all, would love to pick the brains of any ADV riders that have been up along the Murray River as it exits the high country.
I am trying to make an ss1600k plan work, but the length is just a smidgen short at 1450k. my current start is Jindabyne but I think I can potentially get a start point closer to Geehi Flats or further into the mountains, then a mad dash to Khancoban or Corryong for a DBR. looping back is another alternative to add k's but that's not my favorite idea.

Cheers,
Cam.

Put your current map plan up Cameron.

How tight and how far towards the head of the river do you want to start?
Tom Groggin Horse camp has a distinctive sign if you get the background in a photo and maybe worth reaching out to the masses for a volunteir to witness the start at the actual start point then pick up a DBR or similar evidence at Khancoban. If its still too early maybe a photo at Khancoban Pondage Spillway ( I see a link to a photo location for that feature).
Spell out your intentions to management with reasoning why a conventional docket may/is not available at your ride time and r present your alternative option.

Skidoo knows a lot of that country as do others. I'm interested to follow the progress with this ride.

My Intent is to ride the length of the Murray, hugging as tight as I can while maintaining a decent rolling average speed.
I have done a few rides involving the high country already, so losing some time to the twisties is less of an issue for me.

Nice idea for a ride, very entertaining. As Gatey noted Tom Goggin would be the closest point accessible by road easily. Not sure what your objective is as to staying on the Murray, do you want the whole thing to be on the river ? If so you’ll have to do some of it twice, if not I would start at Pambula and enjoy the ride.
That’s assuming you need extra ks.

I don't see your intent as a problem Cameron. As the Murray River doesn't start at the spring at Cowombat Flat where everyone thinks it does, but about one kilometre upstream from the Bringenbrong Bridge. The Idi River starts at Cowombat Flat and joins the Swampy Plains River just below Tommy Lebna's property. This is where the Murray starts. If you want to know the full story contact me.
So I feel if you wher to take a photo of your bike at the Bringenbrong Bridge, then get a docket in Tintaldra [say the hotel or caravan park] you might be alright. As I said give me a bell and I'll explain, cheers. I can see my words here opening a can of worms, but I'm correct, trust me.

You can get fuel and a start docket at Thredbo, well I have in the past.

There are 3 bridges upstream from Bringenbrong, that cross the Murray. I don't know if that impacts your ride plan.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_crossings_of_the_Murray_River

I have somewhere on a computer the documentation of an "All the Murray Bridges" and All the Bridges and Ferris of the Murray.
I crisscrossed the river for both legs, one upstream and one down stream, in order. I did drag that computer out of storage the other day.
Maybe I should submit them?

Ron ( Grey Gentrey) has done a ride report inn here someplace all the crossing along the Murray. From memory it excluded the very lowest reaches in the top of the Coorong like Randell Rd onto Hindmarsh Island. I don't remember his comment or reasoning. Possibly the mileage? Hmm.
Some of the crossing places then have roads heading inland then to a junction and down to another leg and back to the river with no form of DBR. You may find it easier to perhaps call out for a witness or two at any obscure location your route may dredge up.
I think a few photos of the Goolwa Barrage and from the Murray Mouth Lookout from Hindmarsh island looking to sea would be great.
