My daughter Lisa is having a crack at her first IBA ride tomorrow - she wanted to do it before she got off her P Plates next month, so she is restricted to a top speed of 90kph (and instant loss of license if she gets busted speeding) - so a nice little added challenge for her. Apart from her mum, she might be the toughest, most determined chick I know.

Its a straight forward run from Menai NSW, down the Doom Highway to Epping and back again.

I am going to give her an escort out to Sutton Forest and will intercept to pick her up about an hour from home on the way back.

Just in case you are interested here is a link to her Spot - goes live at 02:30 tomorrow.

Lisa got a start dicket at 02:37.

She stopped for a power nap at about 07:00 but was woken by police just before she nodded off to see if she was OK haha. second attempt at power nap much more successful.

Wait a minute! I thought this iron Butt gig was the province of grey heads?

Well done Lisa, 90kmh down the 'Doom will have its own challenges, but how cool to have an IBA ride in the bag on your P plates?

Fingers crossed that Lisa and her GS will have a wonderful day out with all the right numbers adding up at the end of her day! On the bright side, nice to see the Police checking on her well-being.

You are a very good father for not jumping on your bike and tagging along at a discreet distance. The temptation must be there!!
More true words were never spoken. Firstly, Lisa and I have had some great rides together - they have all been great father-daughter times that we both treasure and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity for us to share adventures, and there is a big part of me that wishes we were out doing this ride together.

Secondly, as any father would, I want to be there to protect her - but some of the things that I love about Lisa is her independence and determination (both of which she has in spades) and I just love seeing her accomplish her goals like this. I did escort her out of town this morning (but only in the same way as I have many other LD riders) and will intercept and follow her home in the same way - and I am sure that we will both get that nice rush when I pull in beside her tonight that we all do when someone takes the time to come out and welcome us home.

As for me - I have just about blown up Spotwalla refreshing the screen every 2 minutes. I think that she is fed up with my too-frequent phone calls (she is listening to an audio book that she is enjoying and I keep interrupting).

She should finish around midnight if there are no issues - its hard watching it when she is only sitting on 90kph. I was actually a bit worried this morning in the fog when I led her out to Sutton Forest - semi's approaching from behind at 110, and noticing us fairly late before they changed lanes to go around. Hopefully no fog tonight, but its still sketchy when the sun goes down - the lights on the 650GS remind me of the 6V headlights on the old VW's - had about the same effect as holding up a piece of yellow paper - she has been riding with her hazard flashers on in the dark to let them know she is there. Like I said in a FB post, I am going out on Thursday night to buy her some Super Girl pyjamas.
