Fuel options around Texas

I’m planning my Winter Solstice/States With a Twist ride. Leaving Canberra, up the highway to Nabiac, then across to Kentucky, up to Tenterfield then the Bruxner to Texas, back down to Gilgandra for an overnight stop/sleep (and finish a SS1600). Then up next day to head down to Wodonga, then back to Canberra to hopefully complete my first BB2500.

My question is: what are the overnight/late night fuel options between Tenterfield, Texas and Gilgandra? I haven’t been up that way. My comfortable range is 300km.

Thanks in advance.

While posted in the Australian section, this stands to generate some confusion/interesting replies!

Narrabri, Warialda both have late(ish) opening fuel, although Warialda might be 9ish/10ish only.

Not sure if this post will be considered helpful or not... but here goes....

Tenterfield - Texas (116km)
Texas - Narrabri (273km)
Narrabri - Gilgandra (215km)
Tenterfield - Goondiwindi (via Texas) - 230km
Goondiwindi - Narrabri (224km)

A little googling suggests:
Tenterfield - BP (open to 9:45pm except weekends which are 8pm), United (open to 10pm), Mobil (open til 8pm) and Liberty (supposedly 24.7).

Texas, Qld - Metro (home of the Texas Roadhouse) which is advertised to close at 7pm. There also appears to be 'Fords Family Store' (never visited) which is advertised to be open to 8pm. There is also a hotel (might be good for a DBR if need be).
You do have the option of adding in 'Goondiwindi' which as 24/7 fuel (costing you for an extra 70km).

Narrabri - Looks like there is a Ampol Foodary open til 10pm. Also an Ampol depot with shopfront advertised as 24/7.

Gilgandra - Shell (24/7), Metro (closes 10pm), BP Truckstop (closes 8pm), Inland (Closes 8pm), Ultra (closes 10pm), Ampol Foodary (24/7)

A couple of strategic phone calls prior and you should be good.

You are also currently assuming you can get through around Taree which may not be feasible as there are no bypasses through the town to get north and back onto the highway at the moment with bridges still pending engineering inspection and debris all over the roads (my brother tried getting through Saturday (early) afternoon and ended up getting turned around and having to head back (to Brisbane) via Muswellbrook).

Some nice riding roads up that way (although you appear to be skipping a few) - also some shocking roads too.

Hope the above helps.
Good luck with it.

Solstice is 21st June. Hopefully the roads are ok in just under 4 weeks time.

I've only had the joy of riding the road from Bingara via Rocky Creek to Narrabri once. Loved it.

Good to see you keeping up the rides Shane. Most of us are lying low, it seems.

Not sure which way you are planning on going to get to Kentucky from Nabiac but the Oxley Highway is closed from approx Yarras to north of Gingers Creek. The road has been totally washed out - see facebook post Gingers Creek & on LIVE Traffic NSW

Last time this section of road was washed out it was months before it re-opened and only on specific days & times.

Don't want to see you get caught out.

Happy planning.

Sorry, what’s confusing?

I’ve been trying to complete the Four Seasons since 2021; don’t want to leave it another year.

Helpful, thanks.

Ed meant that SOME folks in heyar will be thinking "ya'lls can git gas ever 30 marls in Texas. Twenty-fo seven, pardner." Or something like that.

They would also be confused by someone riding from Wyoming to Kentucky to Texas (and maybe a quick side trip to Virginia) all in one day during a SS1000M.

I’m from Wyoming and that isn’t the way I would pick to get to Texas!

Yes, that way.

Just make sure you check out LIVE Traffic NSW for updates. There was anther one today regarding that road and will be inaccessible in June.
Be really good for you to achieve this.

Kimmie, he can go Nabiac, Gloucester, Walcha to Kentucky
@OX-34, yes that is also an alternative and probably a better option given the weather and road conditions at the moment.

I wasn’t planning on taking the Oxley Hwy.

Good info here, and agree with the DBR from the Stockman Hotel... as I plan on doing this if the Metro is closed when I get to Texas, QLD.

In checking the Stockman Hotel website, they state being "closed every Sunday and most public holidays". The bar is open for a DBR until 9pm Mon-Wed and 10pm Thu-Sat. Good luck!!
