Our IBR preparations continue. This was our first SS1600 together since IBR19, and we wanted to also test our bonus collection routine along the way. Our ride plan was simple, ride to Mildura for lunch collecting a few painted silos along the way, eat lunch, then ride back to Canberra collecting painted silos our way home.

Our starting docket at 2:30am. It was cool!

The ride down to Wagga was cold, temps in the single digits. After collecting RAAF Base Forest Hill, it was time to warm up with coffee and food in Wagga.

RAAF Base Forest Hill, NSW. And now its even colder!

Heading out across the Hay Plain, the sunrise was spectacular! Fog and some smoke from recent burn offs made for a great sunrise.

We stopped along the way at Narrandera for the painted silo.

Blue skies and sunshine at Narrandera

Victoria was all blue skies with temperatures in the low 20’s. Perfect riding conditions. Lunch as at Stefanos, before we retraced our steps to Canberra collecting photos along the way, including at Hay.

Welcome to Victoria, blue skies and a warmer day

Too much sun to make Hay? The bonus in Hay NSW

We had a routing and communications fail at Collingullie. The map showed the painted “silo” just beside the highway, but I couldn’t see any painted silo’s as it rode past, much to Rebecca’s consternation. After a few seconds of googling furiously, Rebecca says, they are small painted tanks, like water tanks. Oh, I said, we passed those ages OK. Doh! A lesson relearnt in reading and prepping for collecting bonus’s on a Rally!

The picture of concentration, checking and rechecking. Now if I can only get Martin to listen to instructions!

We stopped for fuel and food at Wagga again before commencing the night run up the Hume to Canberra. Collected our finishing docket at Phillip and rolled into the garage right on schedule. Mission accomplished! We felt quite chuffed to have knocked out a SS1600 at IBR pace 2 up, as we felt rusty.

Mission Accomphlised, our first 2up SS1600 since IBR19.

Congrats on a solid completion of the SS1600K. Excellent receipt pics! Remember to be consistent on pictures with rally flags. One or both, as needed, but more in the foreground for quick and positive ID by scoring teams. Good lesson on bonus identification, always know the next bonus before you leave from the one you're grabbing. Saves a lot of mental energy if you both already know what you're looking for next, even if it's hours away.

Great ride, report and pics once again Martin (and Rebecca). Very pleased to hear your preparation is going to plan. The old saying "Practice makes perfect" is only partially true. Only "Practice of Perfection" will give you the result you desire. All the little learnings add up, and despite your past exposure to the IBR it is wonderful that you both have the desire to achieve more with each attempt. Exciting times ahead!
