Question on needing witness

#1
Hey everyone I am new to the forum and am planning my first Saddlesore 1000. I think I understand the rules but just wanted to be clear on one thing. Is having a witness necessary if you are taking the pictures of gas station receipts next to your odometer? I want to be clear on it so it doesn't cause a problem with certification of the ride and it seems much easier not needing to find a witness at the end of the ride if this is the case. In addition https://goo.gl/maps/rxKra7QjUVWyccx18 this is the preliminary route we are thinking about taking if anyone sees any major issues that would cause a problem with certification I would love any input. I am not planning out the stops but would be stopping somewhere around every 150 to 200 miles as that is the average range of the bikes going. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

@Shady024 I think you are correct if you also submit electronically, which is basically a filled out email, with attachments. I did notice that the witness requirement had been removed from the SS1000 webpage, and the revision date was very recent. I'm wondering if we need witnesses for 50CCC if we submit electronically. Someone who is a Premier member can tell us about their requirements, as I don't think they need start and End witnesses as they are premier members.

My suggestion would be to go east on I40, that way you are heading back towards home, and will run into a lot of good riding if you have the time.

I was figuring on an easy day after the saddlesore and just kind of see Nashville since we have never been and maybe head a bit east. Then we are planning on heading back east to hit Tail of the Dragon and Blue Ridge Parkway on the ride home as we are going to have about a week after the big ride.

The -updated- requirements: http://www.ironbutt.com/themerides/ssseries/index.html

It appears that the photo of odometer/photo is now the primary, and the alternate method is witness at the start/end of the ride:

Alternate requirement: http://www.ironbutt.com/themerides/ssseries/witnessmethod.html

The only other piece I'd add is that every rider would have to do their own documentation (odo pictures) as a part of the ride.

Luck to ya!
Awesome that's kind of what I was figuring but having never done this before I want to try to get it right!

There are a few subtle changes to the documentation process. It would do well for everyone wanting to document a ride to re-read this page and get familiar with the changes.

So.....I reading this as.. witness forms are no longer required. Receipts provided and photographed next to odometer by itself will suffice.
Correct??

That seems to be correct. I will not be using a witness at the end of our ride and using what appears to be the primary method of taking pictures of the receipts next to the odometer. Hopefully that works...if not I will just have to do another ride haha.
