Soooooooo the planning is now underway for the Renmark Muster.

My plan is to do a SS2000 from Townsville to Sydney. That route is pretty much set in stone.

What I would like advice on is a potential route from Sydney to Renmark. I was looking for off the beaten track 'pretty' ride routes.

If you know of any 'must ride through' locations between Sydney and Renmark let me know.

I was playing with the idea of going via the snowy mountains ( tumut ) but would be open to advice on that for a SS1600.

Cheers,

Spanner.

Why do you need Sydney Spanner?

Why not a 2500/36?

Townsville to ChartersT
down the 55
onto the 41
onto A2
B71
B87
B64
A20
2630K
Knock it out as a 2500/36 easy.
Should be on the other end of this grownth spurt after the rains and that country looks grouse after a season shower.

Route sounds interesting!

Sydney was on the list because it is 2000K from home AND my granny lives there ..... but .......

What about going through Wilcania and broken hill?

Never been there.
Sounds a good reason to go there. Plan that for the daytime if you do, wandering animals at night.

Google shows Townville - Renmark as 2676 via Hay and 2731 via Wilcannia both in 29 hours. Either way, that's a BB2500/36 with around 6 hours sleep.

But it's your ride. You do the plan, ride the plan. If the plan was good you will be successful. If not, then you will have learnt something.

Just remember to finish the ride in Renmark on the 8th.

Spanner I have two plans on my desk and one includes Brokenhill from Bourke.
Brokenhill to Wentworth and a corner docket at the external ATM of the Wentworth Community bank at 36/38 Darling Street so as not to drag on the Mildura for a docket when a good track exists down the Meridian Rd onto the Sturt Hwy bound for Renmark.
I have no idea if that ATM prints all the data we need but I suspect others might know that answer Spanner. If I take the topwestern route I'll use that corner.

But Spanner if you have never been out that way then this should work out very well as an altrnative.
But heed the warning. Wilcannia is great one day and worst the next as far as fuel.
Fuel logic says Fill at Nyngan Top off at Cobar top off at Emdale and that should see you into the Hill. Or top off at Little Topar and run the bolt to the Hill.
Its sometime the Bermuda Triangle of fuel. Hi fuel burn rates and a soft mix can see you struggle for range. Its quartering winds and oh so easy to pick the tempo up can chew through the fuel faster than you expect.
But the landscape is worth the effort. for eastcoasters this place can offer up the extremes of environment thus a good bite at what can be offered up. I've seen this bit of country 7 years into a drought and at other times ridden for 100's of kilometers with water creeping towards the centreline and nothing but a wet mirror all round.
I'll be in the north to south to west leg by dark oclock if I take route one. But the days will be longer.

Just a bit off route :D regarding your planning Spanner, ........... last Muster there were a lot of (well, a number of) riders congregating at one of the servos around midnight or just after for their final dockets to finish on the Saturday. Currently looking at my route and finishing around the early AM again on the Saturday morning and found that there is a 24Hr BP with a 24Hour Maccas next door at Renmark. ;)

Tk and I have used that 24 hour combo a few times over the years for a good healthy docket, clean rest rooms and a better than average night time feed. Its my intended finish location around 01:30hrs TJ.

The Bendigo Bank Wentworth ATM docket is good Gatey. Has location and date/time. It's going to cost you $2, even for a printout of a balance.

I posted regards the need to finish in Renmark. sort of threw it out there that Renmark West is not Renmark nor is Renmark North or East Renmark.
then like a dunce I must have not actually posted the thing.
Paringa is not Renmark either so....dont fall for the obviose guys. We are after all specialist route planners and smart riders. It would be a shame to fluff the thing for a wrong finish destination by only a few hundred meters along the main road.
Now In Going to pres post reply. cos I was not good before

the BP in Renmark is apparently 24 hours for those who are curious.

I suggest you confirm for your self though.

Both places operated as 24/7 back in Janurary and its inside Renmark too. Town itself has some external ATMs anyway. Bank SA's as a rule print out good dockets.
Man I cant wait to get some wheels turning on this ride...downside is Tony wont be along for the ride. Bloody shame that.
