If you want to start a self-planned ride, can the channel tunnel be used and is it deducted from the total time, e.g. based on timetable, or just included in total ride time as a rest break?

Time is counted but miles are not.
So you just ride with the miles based on the odometer, or mileage from GPS points either side of the terminals?

Plan your ride to account for the miles lost on the shuttle. Depending on the accuracy of your odometer that will give you a good idea of your total miles. If using your GPS remember to subtract the mileage (about 37 if memory serves) on the shuttle from your total ride distance.
