inReach mini with carabiner and guide book. Works perfectly. Carried in a pocket so there is virtually no wear other than the strap. $150 plus shipping.

Replaced with a SPOT X to simplify things.

I'm curious; did you run both at the same time. If so, what was the benefit?
Bought my wife the inReach Explorer for her AT hiking and figured the mini would work good for me on the bike. It gave me the benefit of 2 way messaging over the gen3 but took longer to start tracking, a bit more involved with the Garmin apps (Explore, earthmate) and was more expensive both in purchase price and the plan pricing and a small screen to read. The size was great as it would fit perfectly in the right upper arm pocket of my Klim, had a built in battery and could do more if you had the time to figure it all out.
