..... becomes disconnected between the engine and the oil tank on a T160 Trident and (1) you don't realise and (2) you carry on riding it ?

You basically destroy your engine meaning that :

(1) you can no longer head up to Norway; but
(2) on the upside, you can attend the ERTE in Luxemburg ........

I don't know whether to :) or :(

Seems as if Skathi got her message through...

...this time too. You have indeed limited luck with your winter expeditions, John.

You should be :)
A break down up there can get immensely expensive and troublesome.

Edit:

A friend at www.adventureriders.se/forum16 just happened come across a few riders heading north for the Krystallrally come-together in Norway later this week:

Seems like red is the color of the year.

oh yes I know what happens old triumphs do things like that my 68 Bonneville did the same split the oil pipe to the rockers fraid every thing seem to split or work lose on that its the vibrations you know. fortunately I only had jeans on at the time and the hot oil squirting onto my knee alerted me to the situation. This was a long time ago and the rose tinted spectacles have clouded how disappointed I was at the time. my sympathy for you I hope your engine is recoverable.
