Electronic Bonus Claiming, EBC, is now the mechanism used in all UK and Benelux rallies. Five years on from its first introduction the systems, methods and procedures have all been refined to produce a simple, smooth and reliable way of scoring rallies.

This year facilities will be provided before each rally for a short practice period when entrants can submit bonus claims and receive an automated response detailing the correctness or otherwise of each claim. This is intended to allow entrants to hone their skills and build confidence in the systems and processes. As before, no responses will be sent to live bonus claims submitted during the rallies, responses will only be sent during the practice sessions.

A practice session will be operating for the rest of February and everyone, whether or not you intend to enter any rallies, is invited to submit bonus claims by email to [email protected]. Each correct claim will have a Subject: line containing Rider Bonus Odo Time and a single photo (any photo, we're not going to judge it) attached. The four fields of the Subject: must be separated by one or more spaces, no commas or other punctuation. Rider is a number in the range 1-16; Bonus is one of 01-90, 23B, BA, BAC, BB; Odo readings are integers and time is 24 hour hhmm. Examples of correct Subject: lines :-

1 02 30031 1234
15 BB 2010 2222
16 bac 55999 1512

Obviously it would be beneficial if you were to submit incorrect claims as well as correct ones so that you gain a better understanding of any pitfalls.

The recommended method of submitting claims on a smartphone is:- take a photo, view the photo, click the share icon

choose your email app, enter the address '[email protected]', type the four fields into the Subject: line then click [Send]

Feedback and constructive criticism is always welcome and there are no stupid questions. If you don't understand something, ask either below or by email to [email protected].

I tried this out with correct and incorrect entries, and got the appropriate replies. Very useful exercise.

Good/bad here means that the email did/did not contain a valid bonus claim. It does not mean that the claim will succeed (maybe the photo is the wrong one) or fail, it just means that it will be processed correctly.

You are receiving this because we're operating in test mode. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY RESPONSES DURING THE RALLY.

Sie erhalten diese, weil wir uns im Testmodus befinden. WÄHREND DER RALLYE ERHALTEN SIE KEINE ANTWORTEN.

I'm guessing the automated response hasn't been set up to check the photo detail, I sent photo for bonus location 22 Clare Castle claiming it to be bonus location 14 came back as

I should have made it clear that the robot won't even look at the photo other than to check that there is one and it's readable.
