Following on from Marks missing bike, few months back a few of us talked about small tracking units of eBay/amazon what came if it any recommendations ?
For the cost I think it’s time to fit one

I've been toying with this idea for a long time, but the main ones all want a subscription and specialised installers (few and far between) so this sounds like a good alternative...thanks Jon for all the research.I have one, it's an LK210. I didn't get it from this seller but here's an example - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/High-Qua...637960?hash=item33f474f608:g:CSgAAOSwW75cwAav
There are several around. My advice would be to get one with an internal back up battery apparently the LK210 is 4 hrs.
These are very simple to fit and very easy to use. There are a few video's on YouTube - one quick one is here -
There seem to be several sites shown this unit - one such is http://www.xeelectech.com/e_products/GPS-Motorcycle-tracker-3.html and another is http://www.tk-star.com/
I use a GiffGaff sim with a top up app on my phone, just need to send it a text (sending 'where' gets a location with google map link) once every 3 months to keep GiffGaff happy.
I found a set up doc on a forum (this is not mine so I can't be held responsible blarr blarr blarr…) anyone can get this from my OneDrive - https://1drv.ms/b/s!ApNQJ5VPU_vSwALHnc-AdfP3TZY-
I also found a free.. yes free tracking site - http://gps-trace.com/en/index.html - you need to log in at least once every 6 months to keep this active and guess what I've not done... yep.. Would be great if this could be used with Spotwalla.. I ran the unit with GPRS on and tracked it for about 4 days and it used only pennies data if I remember right, that was last year.
Hope this helps...any questions happy to help.
But if 'your' bike moves Tom, every one within 100 yards knows about it....![]()
I have a Monimoto device on my bike.
Around £150 all in - no yearly fee.
If the bike moves away from the key fob I get a phone call and a link to a google map with my bikes location on it.
It updates the location every 15 minutes.
That looks good, but their website does state a £36 subscription fee. It's not a lot to pay if it works mind. I assume you have tested it?
The only thing you pay for after purchase is a 36 euro yearly renewal of a sim card supplied with the unit. I renewed mine this morning, so I've tested the Monimoto for a full year.
It's worked flawlessly, reporting by email as soon as my bike is even moved off of the stand if it's too far away from the little disc you keep on your keyring.
I would say that the only things it falls down on is that it's a fairly large unit to secrete on the bike somewhere (probably more difficult on my KTM 1290 SuperDuke R than a tourer or adventure bike) plus you don't get a bespoke control room response if it's stolen, just texts every 15 minutes with a link to a google street map showing the location.
I like the Monimoto, but I don't want to confront the thieves, and as you say, you don't have the bespoke control room.
So what do you do, call the police and give them the coordinates, and hope they follow up.
From what I 've read, the thieves usually leave it behind a building for a few hours and wait to see if it attracts the owner or authorities, if not it's stripped, shipped to Lithuania, and spare parts show up on ebay!! bastards!
