What Hackle said. Who cares if your coffee cup may hold a more adult beverage...
:p
Glad you have improvements and that's great news indeed. Don't stress about the surgeon appointment. Listen, consider, let yourself breathe and make your own decisions on how to move forward with the info you get. You're smart and you have Karl to help. You will figure out what's best for you.

Great to read that you continue to improve Kimmie. You've come so far! All the best for your appointments this week.

I usually summarise your updates for my family, who are keen to hear of your progress. Yesterday, I read your post to my wife Juliet, who said, "She's Awesome!"

And you are!

Simon, please thank Juliet for her support!!

Of course I thank everyone for being on Team Kimmie, you all keep me going and inspired with your confidence in me.

At the end of the day, instead of being the "woman who likes little detours", I'm currently the "woman who's doing what she has to do to get back to making detours" :D

Sorry everyone, this post is a week late.

Hi Everyone

Happy FriYAY & hope the weather is as beautiful as it is in Corryong today.

Well 18 weeks has flown by & I'm making steady progress. Have gone back to line dancing doing limited dances as I can manage them which feels great and is fabulous for the self esteem & feel a sense of normality. Hoping to be signed off by hip & leg physio in 2 weeks...YAY (no more trips to that hospital).

The more serious of recovery is the hand. Is slow going but making progress. I'm going for hopefully the final surgery on 11.2.25 to have the metalware & screws removed which is impinging on my recovery...keep your fingers crossed. Otherwise the hand therapist is happy with things & I'm trying each day to do things that we all take for granted.

I can pick up a small/medium sized coffee cup in my right hand now but still need to have the other hand close by just in case.
My next goal is to be able to drive, so we are working harder on wrist movement & grip so I can get this achieved. Wrist movement is also emulating throttle control for when I can get back on a bike.

Will update again post surgery. Keep your fingers crossed for me (cos I can't cross my own ).

Have a great weekend.

Hi Everyone

20 weeks today and not wanting to jinx myself, things are travelling along nicely.

Had the final surgery on my right wrist to remove all the metalware and screws. While they were at it the surgeon broke the capsule in my shoulder unfreezing my frozen shoulder some what. Can't say it wasn't super painful & required to spend an unscheduled night in hospital so they could manage the pain levels with the volume of medication they pumped into me. It ALL went very well though.

Without the metal now my wrist and fingers feel a lot freer than they have for a long time. I'm still bandaged for a couple of weeks but can feel the improvement already.

Working on a return to work program which is exciting & daunting in the one breath. Looking forward to this. The business & my colleagues have been absolutely fantastic through my entire ordeal & I can't thank them enough for being understanding. You rock guys!!

Still lots of physio to continue with but it seems that the road "might" be getting a little shorter.

Happy FriYAY & Valentine's Day, enjoy your weekend.
Love Kimmie xxx

Fabulous news Kimmie, I’m sure bike shopping is that far away.
Had intended to have lunch with you and the rest tomorrow, but life got in the way. Have a great day tomorrow

I've already been out and test sat a couple that are on my list. Obviously, I can't test ride anything "just" yet but I'm feeling positive that it WILL happen.

Shame Alan, catch up next time.

Hi Everyone,

As per the title, I've had an incident with an emu on the Tipping Way to Cobar 20.09.24 for the IBA Memorial Ride.

Was fortunate that folk were heading south, saw the whole thing & stopped to assist....the man Marlon was an off duty paramedic- yes very lucky & called all the right people.

The Lake Cargellico emergency services & ambulance had me heli-vact to Liverpool ED Trauma.

In a little busted up but doing ok all things considered.
Fractured both pelvis
Right arm/hand - Broken radius which has plate & screws now, broken ulnar & broken pinky which is now in an extended cast.
Broken left thumb tip in splint.
May need more surgery on hand know more next week.
Ruptured tumor on liver had surgery but need more on this. Gut teams & trauma are working on that plan will know next week.
Lots of bruising everywhere, cuts & abrasions. Think that covers it.

All my gear & Dudley (RIP) did what they were meant to do to keep me alive.

I'll be in Liverpool hospital for a bit Ward 5E Bed 13 & visitors ARE MOST WELCOME!

Thank you to everyone that has already been in touch & all the messages & heart felt wishes that have been passed on from an AMAZING community I am fortunate to be a part of.

I Love you all, Kimmie. 0415 529 784
I'm a new member just reading you post. Sure hope you are healing up ok and will be back in the saddle as soon as possible!

Hi Everyone
23 weeks today & I'm kicking goals.

Stitches have been removed from last surgery on the right wrist at the scar is coming along, just need to keep working on the scar tissue management.

Went back to work part time this week. Had 1st day of school jitters...LOL. I'd needed not been worried as my direct work team totally had my back! The welcome back was awesome. I now have 3x extra mums & 5 extras dads all checking that I've logged off on time & aren't over extending myself. Who knew banging on a keyboard could be soooo exhausting. I have to have a nap when I log off as I struggle to keep my eyes open .

My hand therapist has officially crowned me her "best patient". I've a new contraption to assist with backward flex of my wrist but have had a big increase in movement of my fingers & grip.

Goals: returned to work, mopped the floor ( able to actually hold the mop handle in my right hand), opening the dishwasher (utilises strength & supernation action) & finally using my right fingers ro flush to toilet....yes you can all stop laughing now . Am allowed to drive halfway to Albury or halfway home.

How am I feeling, proud, still a little nervous about things & grateful.

Slowly improving but well aware I'll hit a plateau at some point but I'll take the wins as they come.

Have a great FriYAY & weekend.
Those of you riding to an event this weekend, ride & be safe...I'm watching Spot links available.
