Yalata is locked down pretty tight from what I have seen, I Don't think you are even allow into/through the community unless you have legit reasons to be there - transit not being a legit reason. When I checked with the Yalata land group I was told you don't need a permit for the Ooldea rd as long as you stay on the road. Once you get to the transline you do need permit to keep heading north toward Maralinga, But that shouldn't concern Derrick & Liz.
Oh boy, up to Leonora, hope they make quick time in a more Westerly direction soon as the remnants of the cyclone will come flowing down through that region in a couple of days...
