A copy of my social media update for those of you who are not on Facebook. Sig

nce I’ve been mostly rolling or sleeping since Sunday night Australia time. I’ve also had extremely limited mobile since day 1, so I’ve been largely unable to post anything.

Sunday into Monday was awesome riding from Sydney to Melbourne and then up to Adelaide. Speeds are slow and strictly enforced by camera. I had a succession of IBA Australia veterans (Sam, Hackle, Fatman and LTP, and finally but certainly not least Jeffrey Gebbler) escort me pretty much the whole way. They will be properly acknowledged after the ride is over. I finished the ride in the day in Snowtown which, if you go by the IBA forum comments, is a sketchy place but I was only there for a few hours and everything seemed ok to me.

Day 2 was spent travelling the desolate Eyre Highway and the Nullarbor. It was windy and wet most of the day but otherwise uneventful. Day 2 ended in Esperance where I met up with my Hoka Hey brother Greg Smith. More acknowledgments coming later in a separate post.

On Day 3 Greg and I rode highway 1 along the south west coast to Perth. The weather was very cool to cool and overcast. The roads leading to Perth were awesome to say the least. The mountains were especially great! Perth traffic was horrendous and that put me over an hour behind. That, plus a spreadsheet (planning) miscalculation meant I was starting Day 4 from Billabong sleep deprived and still over an hour behind.

Day 4 was a mixed bag. I was hauling ass most of the day on the Great Northern Highway. The heat was brutal. Arizona-New Mexico in July brutal but I was making up time so I was in high spirits. Everything was going great until I got to Eighty Mike Creek and the only gas station within 300 kms was closed! So I managed to get a great sleep in my Hoka Hey hotel but now I’m about 6 - 7 hours behind schedule. I can certainly make it up but it’s going to be interesting.

I’m any event, I am blessed to have made it this far! I have covered almost exactly half of the route in 4 days. Today, I’ll head to Darwin and then work my way over to Cairns via the eastern part of the Outback. I’ll provide more updates when I can!

Peace!
