After a particular set of redundancies whilst I was in the Royal Navy, someone put a notice up on the squadron notice board which said:

"Would the last person to leave the Royal Navy please put the lights out".

Followed not long after by a newspaper cutting which was an advert which encouraged young folk to :

"Join the modern Navy".....

Many of use were tempted to ask for a transfer....

The OP statement was actually on one of the bulkheads in poster form in our guided weapons sight workshop!
