Well, that was a great ride.
To put my personal experience into context - a little side story. My last decent ride was mid 2019. With work commitments, then Covid I did not get the bike out again for any riding until September 2020 (and that was a ride of 50klms to work). No more riding until December 2021, when I did a service of the bike, and then a very short test ride. Then parked up again
I am committed to do my Equinox ride, because available time is now in my favour (just), I need to finally do an IBA ride that actually gets recorded/submitted (despite doing a few eligible rides previously - but did nothing about it).
So, I set off in the pouring rain on Saturday morning, with a plan to run east to Tammin, then to wend my way north, north-west thru the canola blooms to turn right onto the Great Northern Hwy. It was a great run, minimal traffic, and roads which were in great condition, despite the amount of water still lapping the edges of the road from recent rains.
Waited at Wubin as I had pre-arranged with Russell to meet him there. But for the first time that morning, I was beginning to watch the clock, and I couldn't wait any longer. With many wide/long loads under escort heading north, deep/long potholes, I needed to drop my moving average back.
Good decision....got into Paynes Find within the window.
Had a good break, lunching with the guys and swapping Defence Force banter with Rusjel and BrissyGTR.
The run home was a simple "follow the leader" with Rus and Chris . Thanks guys, really enjoyed the company.
1050klms completed. Arms sore. My broken thumb giving me hell (that's a story for another time). Lessons learned, but I think I'm ready for my Equinox ride next month. Bike is now washed, comms issues repaired/resolved yesterday, so all in all, a great weekend with lots of boxes ticked.
Cheers guys.
