All but one of riders have booked in.

Start banquet done and riders now planning their routes from the bonus book of 400 plus locations. The book contains all the bonuses for the whole tour.

There will be no scoring at the secret hotel which is now just a compulsory 12 hr stop in Brno with a meal.

A change this year is that there are bonuses for ferry rides and the 16 hrs of sleep bonuses can be used on a ferry. So ferry rides can score ferry points and sleep bonuses at the same time.

The theme is Sports. So there are combination bonuses for visiting multiple ski jumps, surfing beaches and golf clubs.

They can leave between 6 and 7 am Sunday.

More tomorrow with pictures.

Check In
The riders arrived during the afternoon and 1st checked in

They then rode a 22 miles ODO route so we can correct there finish mileages. Most ODOs read high as do speedometers

They filled in emergency number contact forms and a disclaimer before receiving USB stick with the 400+ bonus location on and other goodies including tee shirts, hat, puncture repair kit, phone battery pack, patch etc

Planning a route
The book contains all the details of what to use to plan a ride.
The Programme
The riders now find that the secret hotel is 400+ miles away in the Brno Czech republic and they have around 36 hours to get there and pick up as many bonus locations as they can on the way

They are also told there will be no scoring in Brno so effectively they are riding a 5 day leg with a compulsory 12 hour stop in the middle

The theme of the rally is SPORTS and riders have been challenged to find a sport not included in the book and take a picture of it to get extra points.

There is is a ferry bonus where riders gain points willon ferries that last more than an hour.

[

The sleep bonus is a maximum of 16 hours over 4 nights on the road in a maximum of 4 stops. Riders are encouraged to use the slepp bonus as it will be difficult to accrue that many point per hour collecting bonuses

For the first time on an Iron Butt Event riders are also able to claim the sleep bonus while on a ferry by collecting a receipt "on the ferry" at the start end end of the trip.

In Europe now most events have adopted symbols rather than extended text. This is to help the non English speakers which is important when 9 nationalities are involved.

Some of the bonus book pages

To gain the bonus riders have to go to the Coordinates on the memory stick and take the same picture as in the book with their numbered flag in front of it

Extras can be gained by collecting multiple bonuses of the same type

How do the riders decide where to go? The top riders will have a system to plan an efficient route.Lesser mortals will go somewhere they wish to visit and sweep up bonuses along their route.

From leaving the meeting they had around 11 hours to sleep and plan a route from 405 bonus locations, several possible Combination bonuses located all across Europe

530 am and the riders started to collect in the car park after grabbing an early drink and breakfast in the restaurant
Riders were able to leave between 6am and 7am so gathered before sunrise.
Odos were checked and leave times noted. They had a full 5 days and 12 hrs to return to Stuttgart
The experienced top riders will exceed 5000 miles over the event.

Dave checked everyone out

Top long distance riders are easy to spot on the road. They normally have an extra fuel tank, extra spot lights and a cockpit to match the Starship Enterprise with SPOT trackers and multiple GPS's

Danny Dossman has started moving again. Its either fixed or he's on a breakdown truck!!!!

Looks like many of the riders went south to Italy Slovenia and Austria. Most likely chasing the Ski Jump combination bonuses.

Its where the storm went after the Alps. Probably followed then along.... A true Iron Butt Event.. ATGATT "all the gear all the time" Sun or rain makes no difference

Dave. "orestesdjc" just called. He dropped his bike and is unable to continue. He is OK but bike isn't. Locals have taken him to a secure village and he is waiting for Carol Nash recovery to kick in.

Danny Dossman from texas just came in he spent all night getting diesel out of his petrol tank. It was a small local station and the signs were not clear.

Gerhard the German iron butt president has arrived. His only incident was the old couple in a service station who mistakenly put their camper into reverse and knocked over his BMW. GS
